johnny cash birthday bash 2016 (Custom) (3)Gill Dawg celebrates the memory of “The Man In Black” with Johnny Cash Birthday Bash

Johnny Cash’s ties with Port Richey inspire this birthday celebration at Gill Dawg.

Port Richey, FL – Johnny Cash, the legendary country music artist will forever be remembered as the “Man in Black.”  But when he visited his wife’s family’s home on Sunset Boulevard in Port Richey, Florida he’d shed his dark clothes and relax in shorts and t-shirts. For over 30 years the Carter family bungalow on the Pithlachascotee River gave Johnny respite from his celebrity life.

To honor Johnny’s memory, and his days in Port Richey, Gill Dawg Tiki Bar and Grill in Port Richey will celebrate the legendary singer on his birthday, Friday, February 26, 2016, 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. with the 2nd Annual Johnny Cash Birthday Bash. Highlights of the event include a DJ with a Karaoke contest featuring Cash’s music with prizes; Johnny Cash Trivia Contest; drink specials inspired by the Man in Black, including a Black Cadillac drink. Attendees are encouraged to dress in black or dress like June to receive special prices all night long.  There is no cover charge for the event.

Gill Dawg owner’s Erik and Colleen Suojanen are proud of the history of the Cash and Carter family in Port Richey.  “Port Richey was a place Johnny felt he could get away from it all and be a regular guy”, Suojanen says. “He really appreciated the beauty of this place, and just loved to come here to fish and relax.”

Gill Dawg offers pontoon cruises and kayak tours on the river and out to the stilt houses in the gulf that include a historical narrative of the famous people that once called the area their home. Suojanen especially enjoys introducing these stories to visitors to the area, and personally guided these tours at times.

Gill Dawg is located on the Pithlachascotee (Cotee) River right by Millers Bayou in Port Richey, Florida. It is a  recreation, dining and entertainment hub that focuses on promoting the West Pasco area as a tourist destination by offering eco-friendly water sport activities, and featuring the area’s top musical acts.
